A foyer chandelier is the first light anyone sees in your home, and it is seen from the door before it is seen from beneath. Teeshaa makes alabaster chandeliers and pendant compositions for entrance halls of every height, from a 2.9 m apartment foyer to a double-height villa entrance, designed in Bangalore and made in-house in India. The Halo Crown in its 60 cm size is ready to order online; the larger rings and the Lunar and Infinia compositions are made to order.
why alabaster for an entrance.
An entrance is judged by warmth before it is judged by anything else. Lit alabaster is warm by nature: the lamp sits inside the stone, the whole form glows at 2700K, and there is no bright point to catch the eye of someone stepping in from the dark.
It is also seen close. In a hall you pass within a metre of the piece, and this is where clouding, veining and mineral density show. Every block is different, so the piece at your door is not the piece at anyone else's.
From below, which is how a foyer chandelier is mostly seen once you are inside, stone lit from within shows no lamp. Rings, spheres and discs glow on their undersides as evenly as on their sides.
The limits are honest ones. Alabaster is soft and wants a dry cloth, not a spray. The larger compositions are made to order, typically in 3 to 4 weeks. And it costs more than a glass fitting, which in the one room every guest sees is usually the point.
choosing a foyer chandelier.
- Diameter: add the hall's length and width in feet and read the total as inches. A 3 x 3.6 m (10 x 12 ft) hall suits about 55 to 60 cm; a 4.5 x 4.5 m double-height entrance about 75 to 80 cm.
- Body height: 6 to 8 cm of fixture per 30 cm of ceiling (2.5 to 3 in per foot). With a 2.9 m ceiling that is 60 to 75 cm; in a 5.5 m void, 115 to 140 cm, which calls for a staggered or nested form.
- Clearance: at least 2.1 m (7 ft) under the lowest point, and check the swing of the front door.
- Position: centre the piece on the view from the open door, not on the builder's ceiling point.
- Layers: add a pair of sconces at 150 to 170 cm or a table lamp on the console, so the hall has low warm light at night.
- Finish: the Halo Crown offers Champagne Gold, Brass Gold, Black and White; the Halo Infinia offers Matte White, Brushed Brass, Antique Brass, Champagne Gold and Matte Black; Lunar and Aura finishes vary by piece.
- Light and control: 2700K on most pieces, dimming on request, and a switch at the door as well as where you leave the hall.
the pieces.
The Halo Crown Chandelier is a continuous ring of alabaster with a 4 cm tube, hung on stainless wire with transparent cable. The 60 cm Small size is ready to order and suits a hall of about 3 x 3.6 m; Medium 80 cm, Large 100 cm and XL 120 cm are made to order for larger entrances. LED strip or E27 at 2700K.
The Halo Infinia Chandelier nests rings in a 4 ft format. Seen from the door it is a ring; seen from the stair it has depth. It is the double-height foyer piece, made to order.
The Lunar Series Pendant Lamp P10 groups hand-carved spheres, each a different stone, into a composition set to the volume. The Lunar Branch Style 1 carries spheres on a branching frame and suits a square hall under a standard ceiling.
The Aura Chandelier, about 100 cm wide and 91 cm high (39.5 x 36 in), is a circular frame of radial alabaster shades for a larger ground-floor hall, with 2000K, 2300K or 3000K light. It is made to order.
specifying and ordering.
The Halo Crown Small is ready to order online with the finish chosen on the page. The larger Crown sizes, the Halo Infinia, the Lunar compositions and the Aura Chandelier are made to order: send the hall dimensions, the ceiling height and a photo from the front door through the contact page, and we will suggest a diameter and a drop. Finishes vary by piece. Most pieces are 2700K with dimming on request; drivers sit in the canopy or remotely, and the suspension is cut to size on stainless rod or wire. Lead time is typically 3 to 4 weeks, and pieces ship worldwide from India.
Architects and designers can request technical drawings, material samples and project pricing through the Trade Programme. An entrance that needs a composition built to its volume, or a piece that continues into the stairwell, starts with Bespoke.
frequently asked questions.
What size chandelier do I need for my foyer?
Add the hall's length and width in feet and read the total as inches of diameter. A 3 x 3.6 m (10 x 12 ft) hall suits a piece of about 55 to 60 cm, such as the Halo Crown Small. For a double-height entrance, size the body height to the ceiling as well, roughly 6 to 8 cm per 30 cm of height.
How high should a foyer chandelier hang?
Keep at least 2.1 m (7 ft) between the floor and the lowest point, since everyone walks beneath it, and check the swing of the front door. In a double-height hall, place the visual centre near eye level from the landing, about 1.5 m above that floor. Teeshaa cuts the suspension to your drop.
Where should the chandelier be centred?
On the axis of the view from the open front door, not on the builder's ceiling point if the two differ. Stand in the doorway and look in; the piece should sit on that line. If the wiring point is off axis, move it or ask your electrician about an offset canopy before the electrician fixes the drop.
Can I use a chandelier if my entrance has a ceiling fan?
Only if the fan can move. A chandelier cannot share the sweep of a fan, and a long drop near blades is unsafe. Either relocate the fan, or light the entrance with a pair of alabaster wall lights at 150 to 170 cm and a table lamp on the console, which is often the better answer in a passage.
Which foyer pieces are ready to order?
The Halo Crown Chandelier in its 60 cm Small size can be ordered online. The 80, 100 and 120 cm Crown sizes, the Halo Infinia, the Lunar P10 and Lunar Branch, and the Aura Chandelier are made to order by enquiry, with the drop agreed to your hall. Lead time is typically 3 to 4 weeks, shipped worldwide.
