Luxury Lights for Home: What to Look For

a checklist for judging luxury lights for the home by material, construction, finish, light and terms.

  • Spanish alabaster, selected and matched
  • Designed in Bangalore, made in India
  • Finishes and drop set to the room
  • Typically 3 to 4 weeks, shipped worldwide

Luxury lights for the home are separated from ordinary decorative lights by real materials, careful construction, a consistent finish, soft and controllable light, and clear after-sales terms, not by the word luxury. Teeshaa's alabaster lights are designed in Bangalore and made in its own facilities in India.

key facts.

  • "Luxury" is not a regulated term, so judge a light by its material, construction, finish, light quality and terms.
  • Real stone varies: Teeshaa's alabaster differs from block to block, and no two pieces are the same.
  • Each Teeshaa piece moves through design, stone selection, shaping, finishing, engineering, wiring, assembly and inspection.
  • Most pieces use integrated LED at 2700K, several offer 2000K, 2300K or 3000K, and dimming is available on request.
  • Every light carries a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects, with exclusions stated on the product page.
  • Made-to-order pieces are typically 3 to 4 weeks and are not eligible for returns, exchanges or refunds.

what separates a luxury light from a decorative one?

A luxury light shows its quality in five places: the material, the construction, the finish, the light it gives and what the seller promises afterwards. A decorative light may look good in a photograph but is weaker in one or more of these.

The table at the end of this guide turns each of the five into a quick check. The honest test is simple: can the seller tell you what the piece is made of, how it was made and what happens if something goes wrong?

which materials should you look for?

Look for named, solid materials: natural stone, metal in a consistent finish, and robust suspension. Be wary of listings that describe the material only as premium or designer.

Teeshaa uses Spanish alabaster, a naturally translucent stone, with stainless-steel rod cut to size or stainless wire with transparent cable for suspension. Alabaster is soft, rating about 2 on the Mohs scale, and slightly soluble in water, so it needs dry indoor placement and gentle cleaning. A material with limits that the seller states openly is a better sign than one described as perfect. Our guide to alabaster, marble and onyx in lighting compares the stones.

how should construction and finish be judged?

Judge construction by the details you can ask about: how stone sections are matched, how the metalwork is finished, where the driver sits and how the fixture is hung. A finish should look the same on every visible part.

At Teeshaa, sections of multi-part pieces are matched for colour, clouding and transmission, and stone is reviewed unlit and lit. Metal finishes on most pieces include Champagne Gold, Brass Gold, Black and White, and the Aura Wall Mount also comes in Brushed Brass, Antique Brass, Polished Nickel and Brushed Nickel. The driver can sit in the canopy or remotely, and the product page says which. Check the options on the page for your chosen piece.

what should the light itself be like?

Good decorative light is diffused, warm and controllable, with no harsh glare from the source. Alabaster does this naturally, because the stone spreads the light across its surface.

It is an ambient or accent source, not a task light, so pair it with discreet downlights where you read or cook. Ask whether dimming is available and which colour temperature the fixture uses. Teeshaa pieces mostly use 2700K, and dimming is arranged with the studio on request.

what should a luxury purchase promise after the sale?

It should promise only what it can do, in writing: a stated warranty, clear returns terms and a realistic lead time. Vague assurances are a weaker sign than specific limits.

Teeshaa's warranty covers manufacturing defects for one year, and returns are accepted only for damage or a manufacturing defect reported within 48 hours of delivery. Made-to-order pieces cannot be returned, so confirm size and finish before you order. Read the warranty and returns page before you decide.

how teeshaa fits.

Teeshaa is a maker of sculptural alabaster lighting, with design led from Bangalore and making done in its own facilities in India. In the chandelier collection, the Halo Infinia Chandelier is made to order on enquiry, while the 60 cm Small of the Halo Crown Chandelier is ready to order. The Aura Wall Mount and Essenzo Porcini Table Lamp bring the same stone to a wall or table. For an original piece, see bespoke commissions, or read the alabaster lighting hub.

frequently asked questions.

What makes a light a luxury light?

A luxury light is defined by what it is made of and how it is made: real materials, careful construction, a consistent finish, soft controllable light and clear after-sales terms. The word itself is not regulated, so check the product page for evidence of each rather than relying on the label.

Are luxury lights always made to order?

No. At Teeshaa, some smaller pieces and sizes are ready to order online, while larger formats are made to order on enquiry, typically 3 to 4 weeks. A single product can mix both, such as the Halo Crown, where the 60 cm Small is ready to order and larger rings are on enquiry.

Which materials should I look for in luxury lights?

Look for named natural or solid materials: stone such as alabaster, metal in a consistent finish, and sturdy suspension. Teeshaa uses Spanish alabaster, with suspension typically in stainless-steel rod cut to size or stainless wire with transparent cable. Ask the seller to name each material rather than accept a general description.

What warranty should a luxury light have?

It should be written down, specific and easy to find. Every Teeshaa light carries a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects, covering the whole light. It does not cover physical damage, water or humidity damage, or an installation done by anyone other than Teeshaa's team.

Is natural variation in a stone light a flaw?

No. Alabaster varies in clouding, veining and mineral inclusions from block to block, so no two pieces are the same. Teeshaa does not treat natural variation as a defect under its returns policy. If you need identical units, a natural stone is the wrong material.
