An alabaster pendant light from Teeshaa is a single carved form, a cluster or a linear suspension in Spanish alabaster, designed in Bangalore and made in Teeshaa's own facilities in India. Most pendants and clusters are ready to order online, with the drop cut to your ceiling; larger sizes and large formats are made to order by enquiry. Pieces ship worldwide, typically 3 to 4 weeks after confirmation.
why alabaster for a pendant.
A pendant hangs at eye level, closer than any other ceiling light, so the material is seen as much as the light. Alabaster rewards that. Light scatters inside the stone and leaves from the whole surface, so a sphere, a dome or a column reads as a lit object with no visible lamp and no glare across a table or a counter.
Because every block differs, every pendant differs. One Lunar sphere may be soft and cloudy, the next carry a grey vein across its shoulder. In a cluster or a row, Teeshaa matches the forms for colour, clouding and transmission so that three or five read as a set without pretending the stone is uniform. The material page explains how the stone is reviewed lit and unlit.
At 2700K the light is warm and even, the right quality for a table, an island or a bedside. Dimmed, a single pendant becomes a candle in stone. Pendants are ambient and accent light, not task light; over a worktop, pair them with discreet downlights.
choosing an alabaster pendant.
- Format. A single for a bedside, a corner or a small table; two or three singles in a row over an island or a 1.5 to 2.4 m table; a cluster for a stairwell, a foyer or a square table; a linear suspension for a table or island over 2.4 m.
- Drop. Bottom of the pendant 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35 in) above a table or counter; 2.1 m (7 ft) to the floor in a walkway; 100 to 120 cm from the floor at a bedside. Measure from the finished false ceiling, not the slab.
- Spacing. 60 to 75 cm between centres over an island, 15 cm in from the ends. Slender forms like the Linea column sit closer; a 25 cm sphere wants the wider end.
- Form and size. Lunar spheres at 20 or 25 cm; the Linea column at 30 cm tall and 6 cm wide; Essenzo domes in Small or Medium; Lana and Totem in rounded and stacked forms.
- Finish and light. Finishes vary by piece, with Champagne Gold, Brass Gold, Black and White on most. Integrated LED at 2700K on most pendants; the Essenzo clusters take E27 lamps. Dimming on request.
the pieces.
The Alabaster Linea Pendant is a slender column cut from a single block, 30 cm tall and 6 cm wide, with a total drop of up to 178 cm on a stainless rod cut to size. It is the pendant for a kitchen island in a row of three, for a narrow dining table, or alone beside a bed, and it is ready to order online.
The Lunar Pendant is a hand-carved sphere, 20 cm or 25 cm across, in Champagne Gold, Brass Gold, Black or White. Hung alone it is the clearest demonstration of what lit alabaster looks like; hung in threes it lights a round table. The Essenzo Pendant is a domed form in Small or Medium, softer in outline, for dining corners and bedsides.
The Alabaster Lana Style 1 is a soft rounded pendant with organic veining for rooms that want the stone to be the quiet element. For a long table, the Essenzo Linear Suspension P4 carries four domes on one bar, and the Linea Pendant P5 gathers five columns on one canopy for a stairwell or a square table.
specifying and ordering.
Single pendants and most clusters can be bought online. Larger sizes and large formats are made to order by enquiry. In either case, give Teeshaa the finished ceiling height and the height of the surface below so the rod arrives cut to the drop; the driver sits in the canopy or remotely, which matters when a false-ceiling cove is shallow. Specify the metal finish, 2700K or another available temperature, and dimming if you want it.
Lead time is typically 3 to 4 weeks, and pieces ship worldwide from India. Architects, interior designers and FF&E teams can use the trade programme for drawings, samples and project pricing. For a row of pendants spaced to a particular island, or a cluster composed for a stairwell, the bespoke studio works from the plan.
frequently asked questions.
How high should an alabaster pendant hang over a table?
Hang the bottom of the pendant 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35 in) above the tabletop or counter. Lower feels intimate and suits a small table; higher keeps sightlines open across a kitchen. Where people walk beneath a pendant, keep at least 2.1 m from the floor. Teeshaa cuts the rod to the drop you give at ordering.
Can I hang three pendants from one ceiling point?
Clusters such as the Essenzo Pendant Cluster P3 and the Linea Pendant P5 hang several forms from a single canopy, so one point is enough. Separate single pendants each need their own point. If your ceiling has only one point and you want a row, a cluster or a linear suspension is the answer, or ask the bespoke studio about a multi-drop canopy.
Which alabaster pendant suits a low ceiling?
A single or a row of singles. In a 2.7 m room with a false ceiling, there is no height for a cluster to stagger, so a Linea column, a Lunar sphere or an Essenzo dome on a short drop reads cleanly. Keep 2.1 m of clearance in walkways and 75 to 90 cm above a table, and the stone sits exactly where it should.
Are alabaster pendants bright enough for a kitchen island?
They give soft, even ambient light that is comfortable to sit under and does not glare at eye level. For chopping and reading recipes, add a few dimmed downlights over the worktop. Alabaster is the light you cook and eat by; downlights do the task work. Keep the stone 75 to 90 cm above the counter, well clear of steam.
What finishes and colour temperatures are available?
Finishes vary by piece. Most pendants offer Champagne Gold, Brass Gold, Black and White for the canopy and fittings. Light is integrated LED at 2700K on most pieces, which reads like warm evening light; the Essenzo clusters take E27 lamps. Dimming is available on request and is worth specifying, because alabaster at half output shows more of its clouding.
To decide between the three formats, read single, cluster or linear, with drops and spacing by location. Islands have their own kitchen island pendant page, and the alabaster lighting hub covers chandeliers, wall lights and table lamps.
