A linear pendant light does one thing a round piece cannot: it follows the table. why alabaster for a linear pendant.

A long table needs even light along its whole length, with no bright spots over some seats and shadow over others. Alabaster diffuses the source completely, so each dome or column glows as a whole form, and a line of them reads as one soft band of light rather than a row of lamps.

At 2700K the stone gives light that reads like evening, which is what a dinner wants. Food and faces look as they should, and nobody at the end of the table is looking into a lamp.

Each element is a separate block. In a linear piece with four or five parts, the stones are reviewed unlit and lit and matched for colour, clouding and transmission, so the run reads as a family while every piece still shows its own veining. A moulded diffuser cannot give this.

The trade-off is care and cost. Alabaster is a soft stone that asks for a dry cloth and no chemicals, and it costs more than glass. Over a table that is used every evening for years, most people find that a fair exchange.
