the range.
View all All LightingYes, Teeshaa alabaster lighting can be dimmed: dimming is available on request, so ask when you enquire. The LED driver, which converts mains power for the LEDs, must be matched to the dimming method, and it can sit in the canopy or remotely. Confirm the dimmer type with the studio before any wiring.
key facts.
- An LED driver converts mains alternating current into the regulated direct current that LEDs need.
- Teeshaa product pages list "Dimming: On request" and "Driver: Remote" or "Driver: In-canopy".
- LED circuits must be designed to be dimmable and compatible with the type of dimmer used.
- A mismatched dimmer can cause flicker, buzzing, or damage to the lamp or the dimmer.
- Choose the dimmer after the studio confirms the driver, not before.
what is an LED driver?
An LED driver is the power unit that turns mains electricity into the steady, regulated current an LED needs. Mains power cannot be fed straight to an LED.
The driver sets how much current reaches the LEDs, so it strongly affects how long the LEDs last and how well they perform. Some drivers also handle dimming and remote control. Drivers can be built into the lamp or mounted away from it. In an alabaster piece, the stone and the LED strip are only half of the system. The driver is the part you cannot see, and it decides what kind of dimmer you can use.
where can the driver sit on a Teeshaa piece?
It can sit in the canopy, the fitting at the ceiling, or remotely in a separate box. Product pages state which option applies to that piece.
| driver location | what it means | what to plan |
|---|---|---|
| in-canopy | the driver sits at the ceiling end of the fixture | ask the studio what the canopy needs, plan the ceiling opening to suit, and keep access for servicing |
| remote | the driver sits in a separate box, connected by cable | choose a concealed place that stays reachable, and have the electrician plan the cable run before the ceiling or wall is closed |
For ceilings with a false-ceiling layer, the choice affects the opening and access. That is covered in installing an alabaster chandelier on a false ceiling.
can alabaster lighting be dimmed?
Yes. Dimming is available on request, which means it is set up with the order rather than assumed. Mention it when you enquire.
Dimming suits alabaster particularly well. The stone gives a soft glow, and turning it down lets one fixture move from bright evening light to a low, quiet setting. Most Teeshaa pieces use integrated LED at 2700K, and several offer 2000K, 2300K or 3000K. For how the dimming zones fit in a room, see how to layer lighting around an alabaster fixture.
which dimmer works with which driver?
Only a dimmer that matches the driver's dimming method works properly. LED circuits must be explicitly designed to be dimmable and compatible with particular types of dimmer, otherwise damage to the lamp or dimmer may result.
In general terms there are two families. Mains wall dimmers cut part of each power cycle, and they come as forward-phase and reverse-phase designs. Control-signal systems send a separate low-voltage signal to the driver, such as 0 to 10 V or DALI, or use a smart-home controller. Which one suits your piece depends on the driver in it. Compatibility depends on the exact driver, so do not assume that a dimmer you already own will work. Ask the studio which dimming method the driver on your chosen piece uses, ask for the answer in writing, and give it to your electrician.
why does a dimmed LED flicker or buzz?
The usual cause is a mismatch between the driver and the dimmer, or a poor-quality power supply. Badly designed LED lamps may flicker, and the extent depends on the quality of the DC supply.
Buzzing can come from the dimmer itself, because the coils inside some dimmers vibrate when they switch at high voltage. A small LED load can also fall below the minimum load a wall dimmer is built for, so check the dimmer's stated range against the fixture's wattage. Teeshaa light sources range from an 8 W LED strip on the Totem Table Lamp to 12 W to 20 W on the Aura suspensions, so a dimmer built for large loads may suit them poorly. Flicker that you can see or feel is worth fixing before the installation is signed off.
what should you settle before the electrician wires it?
Settle the dimming method first, then the position of the driver, then buy the dimmer. Doing it in this order avoids rewiring.
- Tell the studio you want dimming, and ask which dimming method the driver supports.
- Ask whether the driver is in the canopy or remote, and plan access to it.
- Give your electrician the studio's written answer before they choose a dimmer.
- Decide the zones: alabaster piece, downlights and lamps on separate controls.
- Test at low and full brightness once installed, and report any flicker straight away.
The warranty covers manufacturing defects in the whole light. It does not cover damage caused by an installation done by anyone other than Teeshaa's team, and you may use your own electrician, but then the installation sits outside that cover.
how Teeshaa fits.
Teeshaa makes sculptural alabaster lighting, designed in Bangalore and made in its own facilities in India. Dimming is available on request, and the team reviews output, suspension and access before an order. Good starting points are the Aura Chandelier, the Halo Crown Chandelier, the Alabaster Linea Pendant and the Essenzo Pendant. For rooms, see bedroom lighting and living room chandeliers, or browse the alabaster lighting hub.
frequently asked questions.
Can Teeshaa alabaster lights be dimmed?
Yes. Dimming is available on request, and product pages list it as on request. Ask for it when you enquire so it is set up with the order. Then confirm the dimmer type with the studio before your electrician wires anything, because the dimmer must match the driver.
What is an LED driver?
An LED driver is the power unit that converts mains alternating current into the regulated direct current that LEDs need. It also affects how long the LEDs last and how well they perform, and in some designs it handles dimming. It can be built into the fitting or mounted separately, away from the light.
Where does the driver sit on a Teeshaa light?
It depends on the piece. Product pages show Driver: In-canopy or Driver: Remote. An in-canopy driver sits at the ceiling end of the fixture. A remote driver is in a separate box and needs a concealed but reachable place, planned before walls or ceilings are closed.
Will any dimmer switch work with an LED alabaster light?
No. LED circuits must be designed to be dimmable and compatible with particular types of dimmer, and a mismatch can cause flicker, buzzing or damage. Ask the studio which dimming method the driver on your piece uses, and share that with your electrician before choosing a dimmer.
Why does my dimmed LED light flicker?
Common causes are a driver and dimmer that do not match, a dimmer used below its minimum load, or a poor-quality power supply. Flicker is worth fixing before the installation is signed off. Report it to the studio and your electrician, and do not leave a flickering fitting running.
