Ring Chandelier Size Guide: Diameter, Drop and Table Width
How to size a ring chandelier: diameter against table width and room size, drop height, nested rings and LED versus E27, with Teeshaa's Halo sizes.
The right ring chandelier size comes from two measurements: the width of the table or seating beneath it, and the size of the room. Over a dining table, choose a ring between one half and two thirds of the table's width, and never wider than the table minus 30 cm. In an open room, add the length and width in feet; that number, read as inches, is a comfortable diameter. Teeshaa's Halo rings are made in 60, 80, 100 and 120 cm, so this guide is written around those four sizes.
In brief
- Over a table: ring diameter one half to two thirds of the table width. A 120 cm round table takes a 60 to 80 cm ring.
- Open room: length plus width in feet, read as inches. A 4 by 5 m room (13 by 16 ft) gives about 29 in, or 75 cm.
- Drop: the bottom of the ring 75 to 90 cm above the tabletop; at least 2.1 m (7 ft) above the floor where people walk.
- Halo Crown and Halo Ring Style 1: Small 60 cm is ready to order; 80, 100 and 120 cm are made to order.
- Long tables suit a horizontal piece or two smaller rings, not one oversized ring.
- Nested rings read as a single piece; size them by the outer diameter.
What size ring chandelier for a dining table?
Take the narrowest dimension of the table and multiply by 0.5 and 0.67; the ring should fall between those two numbers. A 120 cm round table wants a 60 to 80 cm ring. A 150 cm round table wants 80 to 100 cm. A 100 cm wide rectangular table wants 60 cm, however long it runs.
A ring wider than the table hangs over the chairs and catches heads as people stand; one much narrower than half the table looks like an afterthought. The table below maps the four Halo sizes to table and room dimensions.
| Halo ring size | Round or square table | Rectangular table width | Open room, no table |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small, 60 cm (24 in) | 100 to 120 cm | 90 to 110 cm | up to about 3.6 x 4 m |
| Medium, 80 cm (31 in) | 120 to 160 cm | 110 to 140 cm | about 4 x 5 m |
| Large, 100 cm (39 in) | 150 to 200 cm | 130 cm and wider | about 5 x 6 m |
| XL, 120 cm (47 in) | 180 cm and wider | rarely; use two rings | 6 x 7 m or double height |
The right-hand column follows the length-plus-width rule and is a starting point. A room with a 3 m ceiling carries a larger ring than the same floor plan at 2.7 m.

How low should a ring chandelier hang?
Over a dining table, set the bottom of the ring 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35 in) above the tabletop. Lower than 75 cm and the ring blocks faces across the table; higher than 90 cm and the light loses its intimacy and starts to compete with the ceiling. In a walkway, keep the bottom at least 2.1 m from the floor.
A worked example. A Bangalore apartment with a 2.85 m slab and a 25 cm false ceiling gives a finished height of 2.6 m. The table is 75 cm high. The ring bottom should sit 150 to 165 cm from the floor, so the whole assembly, from ceiling plate to the underside of the ring, measures 95 to 110 cm.
Halo rings hang on stainless wire with a transparent cable, and the total height is set to the room, up to 183 cm (72 in). Measure the finished ceiling, not the slab, and give the workshop the drop before the piece is made. In a cove, the driver can sit above the false ceiling.
Sizing a ring for a living room or entrance
Without a table, use the room. Add length and width in feet and read the sum in inches. A 4.5 by 5.5 m living room is roughly 15 by 18 ft, which gives 33 in, or about 84 cm, so an 80 cm ring fits. A 6 by 7 m double-height volume gives 43 in, about 109 cm, which is Large or XL territory.
Then check clearance. Where people walk under the ring, the bottom stays at 2.1 m or more. Over a seating group nobody walks through, it can drop so its bottom sits about 2.1 m above the floor, which brings the stone lower in the room when seen from the sofa.
One ring, nested rings or a horizontal line?
A single ring is the calmest answer for a round or square table and for most living rooms. Nested rings, as in Halo Infinia, a 4 ft format with rings set inside one another, give more light and more presence from one canopy; size the composition by its outer diameter.
For a long table, a round form fights the geometry. A 240 cm table that is 100 cm wide should take a 60 cm ring by the width rule, which then looks lost along the length. The better answers are two 60 cm rings centred over each half, or a horizontal piece such as the 80 cm Vanta Halo, which follows the table rather than sitting on it. Our guide to linear pendant lights covers this choice.

LED strip or E27 lamps inside the ring?
Halo Crown is offered with either an integrated LED strip or E27 lamp holders, both at 2700K. The strip gives a continuous, even glow along the whole ring with no visible lamp positions through the stone. E27 lamps can be replaced from any hardware shop, but through thinner sections of stone the eye may read where each one sits.
Choose the strip for the smoothest light; choose E27 if you want to swap lamps yourself over the years. Either way, ask for dimming when you order. Alabaster at low output looks like a lit candle inside stone, and a dining room needs that setting most.
Choosing between the Halo pieces
For a round or square dining table, or a living room up to about 5 by 6 m, start with the Halo Crown Chandelier: one continuous ring on a 4 cm tube, Small 60 cm ready to order, Medium, Large and XL by enquiry. The Halo Ring Style 1 shares the same four diameters, so the size table above applies to both.
Where the ceiling is high, or the ring is seen from a stair or gallery, Halo Infinia's nested rings give the piece depth. Where the table is long, Vanta Halo's horizontal 80 cm line is the honest fit. Every piece in the Halo series is carved from Spanish alabaster and lit from within, so the clouding and veining of each block become part of the light, and no two rings are the same.
Mistakes to avoid
- Measuring the slab, not the finished ceiling. A 25 cm cove changes the drop by 25 cm. Measure after the false ceiling is in, or give the workshop the planned finished height.
- Sizing a ring to the table's length. Use the width. A ring wider than the table minus 30 cm overhangs the chairs.
- Hanging the ring at walkway height over a dining table. At 2.1 m clearance the ring sits 135 cm above the surface, far too high. Use 75 to 90 cm above the tabletop.
- Ordering before the table is chosen. A 60 cm ring suits a 120 cm table and looks small over a 180 cm one. Fix the table first.
Questions people ask
What size ring chandelier for a 6 seater dining table?
A six-seater is usually 150 to 180 cm long and 90 to 100 cm wide. By the width rule a single ring should be about 60 cm. If that looks slight along the table, use two 60 cm rings or a horizontal piece.
How far above a table should a ring chandelier hang?
Set the bottom of the ring 75 to 90 cm above the tabletop. With a standard 75 cm table that puts the underside 150 to 165 cm from the floor. Go lower with 2.6 to 2.7 m ceilings and higher at 3 m and above.
Can a ring chandelier go in a bedroom?
Yes, over the foot of the bed or centred on the room, with the bottom at 2.1 m where you walk. A 60 cm ring suits most bedrooms. Ask for dimming and consider 2700K or warmer; our bedroom lighting guide covers heights and switching.
