Restaurant lighting in Spanish alabaster: pendants for each table, linear suspensions for long and communal tables, slender columns for the bar and wall lights for banquettes and corridors, all designed in Bangalore and made in Teeshaa's own facilities in India. Several pieces are ready to order online. Multiples, larger formats and larger quantities for a whole room are made to order on enquiry, typically in 3 to 4 weeks.

why alabaster for a restaurant.

A restaurant has one lighting problem above all others: the guest must never look at the lamp. Alabaster solves it by making the whole shade the source. Light passes through the full thickness of the stone, so there is no hot spot and no bright point to squint past, only a soft gradient of clouding and veining that reads as warmth rather than wattage.

At low output the stone behaves like a candle inside a shell. This is what lets a dining room drop to a late scene without going dark; the pendants stay visibly alive at 30 per cent, where glass or metal shades simply go dim. Faces keep their colour because warm light through stone is already on the side of skin and food.

Every block is different, and in a room of twenty pendants that is an asset. Teeshaa reviews each stone unlit and lit and matches multi-part pieces for colour, clouding and transmission, so a batch reads as one family while no two shades are quite the same. Guests notice, usually without knowing why.

Be clear-eyed about the trade-off. Alabaster is a soft gypsum stone that dislikes water and harsh cleaners. It belongs over the tables and the bar, cleaned with a soft dry cloth, and not above a grill or a pass. Where a restaurant respects that, the stone lasts.

choosing restaurant lighting.

  • Hang one diffused pendant per table with its lowest point 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35 in) above the tabletop. Smaller and lower for two-tops, a little higher for four-tops and lively rooms.
  • Keep the shade to half or two thirds of the table width. For tables longer than 2.4 m, use a linear suspension about two thirds of the table length, or a row of pendants 60 to 75 cm apart.
  • Specify 2700K for the dining room and 2000K to 2300K for bars and late rooms. Ask for CRI 90 or above. Leave 3000K and cooler for the kitchen.
  • Order dimming on every piece and put pendants, wall lights and coves on separate circuits so lunch, early evening and late scenes can each be set.
  • Choose one metal finish for the room. Most Teeshaa pieces offer Champagne Gold, Brass Gold, Black and White; finishes vary by piece.
  • Tell us the finished ceiling height and the table heights. Rods are cut to size so each pendant lands at the right drop without site adjustment.

the pieces.

The Essenzo Pendant is the workhorse for two- and four-tops: a domed shade in Small or Medium that hides its lamp entirely. A row of them over a line of tables sets a steady rhythm without competing with the food.

The Alabaster Lana Style 2 is a softer, rounder form with organic veining, so no two read alike. It suits a room that wants each table to feel slightly its own while the material stays constant.

For a round communal table or a private dining room, the Essenzo Pendant Cluster P3 groups three domes as one fitting, so the centre of a large table is lit from more than one point without the weight of a chandelier.

Along a bar the Alabaster Linea Pendant is the quiet choice: a 30 cm column carved from a single block, 6 cm wide, on a stainless rod cut to your drop. Spaced 60 to 75 cm apart it lights the counter without blocking the view across it.

The Aura Wall Mount handles banquette walls, the corridor to the washrooms and the host stand. A glowing alabaster disc at 150 to 170 cm from the floor washes the wall and adds depth to a room whose ceiling is already working hard.

specifying and ordering.

Pieces marked ready to order ship in their standard sizes and finishes. Larger formats, multiples for a full room and any matched set are enquiry pieces, confirmed with a drawing and a lead time, typically 3 to 4 weeks. Integrated LED at 2700K is standard on most pieces; 2000K, 2300K or 3000K are offered on several, and the Essenzo clusters use E27 lamps. Dimming is available on request, with drivers remote or in the canopy. Suspension is on a stainless rod cut to size, so the drop is fixed for your room before it ships. Teeshaa ships worldwide.

Hospitality designers and FF&E teams can request material samples, technical drawings and project terms through the Trade Programme, and a signature piece for a bar or private dining room can be developed through Bespoke. Care is simple and strict: a soft dry cloth, no sprays. The care guide has the detail.

frequently asked questions.

How many pendants do I need for a restaurant?

One per table is the rule for two- and four-tops. For tables longer than 2.4 m use a linear suspension or a row of pendants spaced 60 to 75 cm apart. Count the tables you will set most nights, then add two spares so later replacements come from the same matched batch of stone.

What colour temperature should restaurant lighting be?

2700K for the dining room, 2000K to 2300K for bars and late-night rooms, and 3000K or cooler only in the kitchen and prep areas. Warm light flatters food and skin and suits alabaster. Ask for CRI 90 or above so reds and browns render truthfully. Teeshaa pieces are 2700K as standard, with 2000K, 2300K or 3000K offered on several.

Can alabaster pendants be dimmed?

Yes. Dimming is available on request on Teeshaa pieces, with the driver placed remotely or in the canopy. Specify it at ordering, and ask your electrician to put pendants, wall lights and coves on separate circuits. Alabaster at low output glows like a candle inside stone, which is exactly what a late scene wants.

How do you clean alabaster lights in a restaurant?

With a soft dry cloth, or one that is barely damp, and nothing else. No sprays, no abrasive or harsh cleaners. Keep stone shades over the tables and the bar rather than above the grill or pass, where grease and steam settle. Follow the care guide supplied with each piece.

Can a restaurant order many pendants of the same design?

Yes. Ready-to-order pendants can be ordered in quantity, and larger quantities for a whole room are made to order by enquiry. Ask for the batch to be reviewed together for colour, clouding and transmission so the room reads as one family. Lead time is typically 3 to 4 weeks. Order spares in the same batch; stone ordered later will have its own character.
