Luxury lighting for villas and farmhouses asks for pieces with enough scale for a double-height volume and enough restraint for a bedroom, in one material that runs through the house. Teeshaa makes that family in Spanish alabaster, designed in Bangalore and made in our own facilities in India: ring and nested-ring chandeliers, vertical compositions for stairwells, dining suspensions, wall lights and table lamps. Smaller pieces are ready to order online; large formats are made to order on enquiry.

why alabaster for a villa.

A villa is seen from a distance as well as up close: from the drive, through glazing, from a gallery looking down. Lit alabaster holds up at every one of those distances. From far away a piece reads as a soft warm form; from the sofa the clouding and veining come forward; from the landing, looking down into a ring, the stone shows its thickness and depth.

Because the light passes through the stone rather than bouncing off it, large pieces stay gentle. A 100 cm ring or a 4 ft nested composition in glass or polished metal can glare in a tall room; the same scale in alabaster glows. That matters in a villa, where the living room chandelier is often in the eye line from the floor above.

No two blocks are alike, and a house of ten pieces benefits. Each stone is reviewed unlit and lit, and multi-part pieces are matched for colour, clouding and transmission. The result is a family rather than a set: the same material from the entrance to the last bedroom, never quite the same twice.

The honest caveat is water. Alabaster is a soft gypsum stone, so it stays inside, or under a deep, dry veranda roof, and is cleaned with a dry cloth. Villas with pool pavilions and open terraces should light those spaces with wet-rated fittings and keep the stone behind glass.

choosing luxury lighting for villas.

  • Work from the architect's sections. Finished ceiling heights, after the false ceiling, decide the drop of every piece. Teeshaa cuts rods and wires to size, so give us the number.
  • Double-height living rooms and stairwells: size the footprint by adding room length and width in feet (the sum in inches is comfortable), then give the piece height. Keep 2.1 m (7 ft) clear in any walkway.
  • Dining: pendant bottom 75 to 90 cm above the table, width one half to two thirds of the table width.
  • Bedrooms and corridors: wall lights at 100 to 120 cm by the bed, 150 to 170 cm in corridors, and 2000K to 2300K in sleeping rooms.
  • Colour temperature: 2700K as the house baseline, warmer in bedrooms and bars, 3000K where colour accuracy matters. Dim every circuit.
  • Finish: choose one metal finish for the house. Most pieces offer Champagne Gold, Brass Gold, Black and White; the Halo ring pieces offer Matte White, Brushed Brass, Antique Brass, Champagne Gold and Matte Black. Finishes vary by piece.

the pieces.

For the main living volume, the Halo Infinia Chandelier is nested alabaster rings in a 4 ft format, made to order. It carries a 5 to 7 m ceiling without spreading wide, and reads as well from the gallery as from the sofa.

In a stairwell, the Vanta Halo Chandelier Vertical, 80 cm in its Small format and made to order, gives the stair a tall, quiet centre that is seen on every landing. Its horizontal sibling suits a long dining table instead.

The Essenzo Ring Suspension is a ready-to-order ring for a dining or family room with a standard 2.7 to 3.0 m ceiling, where a nested composition would be too much and a single pendant too little.

The Lunar Series Pendant P5 hangs five hand-carved alabaster spheres at different heights. It suits a stair landing, a double-height entrance or a corner of the living room where the eye needs to be led upward.

On corridor and bedroom walls, the Halo Rifflesio Wall Mount, a 30 cm alabaster ring on the wall and made to order, repeats along a passage at 150 to 170 cm and carries the ring motif of the living room through the rest of the house.

specifying and ordering.

Ready-to-order pieces ship in their listed sizes and finishes. Large formats, including the Infinia, the Vanta pieces and Halo Crown Medium, Large and XL, are made to order on enquiry; we confirm a drawing, finish and lead time, typically 3 to 4 weeks. Integrated LED at 2700K is standard on most pieces, with 2000K, 2300K or 3000K on several; dimming is available on request, with drivers remote or in the canopy. Suspension is on a stainless rod cut to size, or stainless wire with transparent cable on the Halo rings, so each drop is set to its room. Teeshaa ships across India and worldwide.

Architects and designers can request material samples, technical drawings and project terms through the Trade Programme; a piece drawn to a specific volume is a Bespoke commission. Care is a soft dry cloth and nothing else; the care guide has the detail.

frequently asked questions.

What size chandelier suits a double-height living room?

Add the room's length and width in feet; the sum in inches is a comfortable width, so a 5 m by 6 m room points to about 90 cm (36 in). Then give the piece height, 1.5 to 2 m, so it reads in a 6 m volume, and keep its lowest point at least 2.1 m from the floor.

Can alabaster lighting be used on a veranda?

Only under full cover and away from rain and spray. Alabaster is a soft gypsum stone that is sensitive to water, so a deep roofed veranda with no rain path can take a wall light or pendant, while open terraces, pool decks and balconies cannot. Light those with wet-rated fittings and keep the stone indoors.

How do you keep lighting consistent across a large house?

Choose one material and one metal finish and vary the form by room: a nested ring in the living volume, a vertical piece in the stair, a single ring over dining, slender wall lights along corridors. Keep colour temperature within 2000K to 3000K throughout and dim every circuit so rooms can be set to the same evening level.

When should lighting be decided in a villa build?

Before the electrician's first fix and before the false ceiling closes. Finished ceiling heights, fan positions and drops need to be on the drawing so rods can be cut to size and drivers placed. Made-to-order pieces take typically 3 to 4 weeks, so order against the ceiling programme, not the handover date.

Do you work with architects on villa projects?

Yes. The Trade Programme gives architects, interior designers and FF&E teams project terms, technical drawings, material samples and lead times. For a piece sized to a specific volume, Bespoke develops a design from the architecture, the material and the use. Workshop visits in Bangalore can be arranged by appointment.

Our journal walks through a lighting plan for a villa, room by room, with heights, drops and a pre-first-fix checklist. For the whole collection by form and series, start at alabaster lighting, and see the dedicated page on staircase and double-height chandeliers.
